Join us for the Summit & Retreat Feb 3-5, 2023

The BAD news WAS... due to circumstances beyond our control we had to postponed our First Annual Summit & Retreat in November 2022 to February 2023.

WHEN is this happening?

The GOOD news IS... that means you can still join us!!! Here's what you need to know:

WHERE is this taking place?

Nestled in Treaty 6 territory near the Onion Lake Cree Nation, this event is being hosted at a lakeside residence about 15 minutes from of Lloydminster, AB. Carpooling is available (and encouraged!) so add your requests and offers when you register!

WHAT will we be doing there?

Conversation, professional development workshops, playtime, star and aurora gazing (or shooting), nature walks by day or night, Uncomfortable Conversations with our Special Guests, naps, and whatever else ends up happening. (See the complete schedule here.) 

HOW MUCH does it cost (and where does the money go?)

Registration is $275 which includes all programming, instruction, materials, snacks, beverages, and meals, plus the chance to take home some most-excellent swag and prizes. You can book a hotel in Lloydminster and commute, or book in for on-site accommodation at the lakeside residence for as little as $50/night.

Do you qualify for a discount?

A $50 discount is automatically applied to registrations received on or before January 8th, 2023. If you are alumni of The Shooting Range Season One or Two (Challenger, Guest or Panel Judge, Sponsor or Donor) you are eligible for an additional $50 off your invoice. There are payment plans and additional discounts available for individuals who need financial assistance - please include this information on your registration.

Funds collected from Registrations pay for the hard costs of the event including the venue rental, foods and beverages, and programming materials; any monies collected in excess of actual costs is directed towards the Foundation's core operating expenses.

WHO will be there?

ATTENDEES ARE: creative professionals (photographers/videographers, HMUAs, models, fashion designers, advertising and marketing specialists, social media managers, etc.) as well as anyone who hires, works for, relies on, or collaborates with the photographic arts community.
HOSTS AND ORGANISERS ARE: Rare Earth's Board of Directors (including the co-creators of The Shooting Range: A Photography Challenge)
SPECIAL GUESTS ARE: volunteers and special guests including a model, workshop facilitators, and folks willing to answer questions during the Uncomfortable Conversations taking place each night.

Say hello to Dara Ojo, Rare Earth Outreach's Guest Judge for the August 2023 50/50 Challenge! The Match Brief drops August 1st, 2023, so until then we suggest you spend a little time getting to know this month's Guest Judge. This Nigerian-born native has spent many years living abroad, including time in the UK and China, and currently calls Canada home. His early years playing with a busted Nikon didn't translate to a passion for photography until the pandemic hit. With the planet at a dead standstill and left at the mercy of global restrictions on who and how and when we interacted with the world around us, Dara started (quite literally) looking at the world through a different lens: a macro lens!
